"Six Figure Freelancing" by Kelly James-Enger is chock full of resources for the budding freelancer. This book touches on everything from what to claim on your taxes to the financial, physical, and emotional expectations of pursuing a freelance writing career.

The book begins by assessing your determination and teaching you how to think of your freelance work as a business rather than a hobby. Making that distinction is much more important than you would think.

Enger covers everything from organizational approach, efficiency, who to know and how you maintain those relationships (and why that is important), negotiating techniques for getting the most money for your work, goal setting, querying potentials, and tons of other suggested reading materials.

Although this book is not all-encompassing, I would consider it to be a genuine necessity for anyone looking to break into a freelance writing career. Some of the technology referenced is dated, but it is a great starting point for anyone who longs to write, but doesn't quite know where to begin. Enger is logical and straightforward in her presentation; but keep a notebook nearby - trust me, you will want to take plenty of notes.
