Murphy's Law vs. God's Law
65
Let's say we're faced with two versions of the same "law": Murphy's Law, and a play on words of the same.
Murphy's Law basically says "Nothing is as easy as it looks; everything takes longer than you expect; and if anything can go wrong, it will - at the worst possible moment."
How exactly does that make you feel? James Allen, a British philosopher said "All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts." So if Murphy's law seems to apply to your life, maybe you should adjust your thinking- because as Joyce Meyer says "Where the mind goes, the man follows."
Joyce has played on the words of Murphy's Law, to reverse it into what she calls "God's Law": "If anything can go right, it will; nothing is as difficult as it appears; everything is more rewarding than it appears; if anything good can happen to anybody, it will happen to me."
I will keep this short and sweet, as it is CHRISTmas and most of us have plenty to do today, but think about this while heading into the New Year. Negative thinking produces negative results in your life. I (and Joyce Meyer) challenge you to fill your mind with positive thoughts. Regardless of your religious affiliation, the power that your thoughts have over the events in your life is outstanding. If you think negatively, behave negatively, and expect such a response from others, then more often than not - you will get what you expect.
Let's head into the New Year with a new outlook and see what happens. For those of you who are interested, Joyce Meyer presents the "12 Strategies to Win the Battle of the Mind" in her book "Power Thoughts". This book was given to me as a gift, and though it only reiterates what I have already learned (from reading previous books by Joyce and from life in general) - sometimes we need that little nudge or reminder to keep us on track.
There are many things I want to accomplish in 2011, my unspoken and unwritten (thus far) list of New Year's resolutions will definitely require the banishment of "stinking thinking" to accomplish even half of them. And no, I'm not biting off more than I can chew...because "If anything can go right, it will; nothing is as difficult as it appears; everything is more rewarding than it appears; if anything good can happen to anybody, it will happen to me."
Merry Christmas, and I wish you a Happy 2011 to come.

Geneticist I mean...guess I did have too much sherry!
As a Christian, I believe that all things happen for a reason, even the bad things. It's all part of the path we were meant to walk good or bad.
Do I believe that a positive outlook on life will make good things happen or vice versa, no. But I would think that a person with a negative outlook on life would tend to dwell on the negative therefore making it seem more substantial.
j.aimie, Very nice job! "dwell on that which is noble and good" God did not waste instruction, He left it for a reason. "Take captive your thoughts" How we color our thinking does indeed, color what we see. Well done.

Hi Jamie: If you can brush the effects of sherry, turkey and chocolates off and wax loquacious, I guess I can make the attempt, too. I am a genecist, Jamie. I think most of what we are, what we do, how we think and how we end up is down to our DNA. WE can - and many do- fight against our hard-wiring, but the genes will win in the end, for good or bad. Hope you're having a nice day...Bob
